There are several
organizations in the United States that offer certification programs to
nutritionists and nutritional consultants. One such organization is the American
Association of Nutritional Consultants (AANC).
The
purpose of certification is to protect the health, safety and welfare of the
public by promoting high standards and professional competence of persons
practicing in the profession of nutritional counseling. This serves to inform
the practitioner’s patients and potential patients that the practitioner has
met professional requirements through stringent studies and examinations in
addition to, and beyond, normal academic studies and/or professional experience.
Candidates for certification are required to complete a series of seven
comprehensive tests that demonstrate proficiency in the areas of General and
Applied Nutrition, and in Practice Management. Candidates are required to make a
score of 80 or above on all seven exams before they are eligible for
certification. Upon successful completion of the examination, qualified
candidates receive their certificate, which designates them as Certified
Nutritional Consultants (CNC) by the American Association of Nutritional
Consultants.
We are
happy to have Mel McDonald, ND on staff as our Certified Nutritional Consultants
